The BGS colour scheme can be applied to your data using a number of different methods depending on the type of data you have downloaded.
These symbolisation files are all National coverage, and so can be used where you have merged several tiles of BGS data together.
QML and SLD (Style Layer Descriptor file): QML files are used in Open Source GIS software QGIS; SLDs can be used in uDig, gvSIG and Open Jump. These files have been created by EDINA from the Layer files provided by the BGS.
AVL (ArcView Legend file): These are the old method that ESRI software used to deliver symbolisation. They still work with all versions of ArcGIS and are the format the BGS uses to produce its legend information for each individual sheet.
LYR (Layer file): These are the newer method that ESRI software uses to deliver symbolisation. The BGS provide Layer files for national coverage of their data.
