Overview

OS MasterMap® Highways Network brings together data from authoritative sources such as the National Street Gazetteer (NSG) and OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network (ITN) to create a single authoritative view of the road network.

OS MasterMap® Highways Network is provided as a national dataset and comprises three components:

  • OS MasterMap® Highways Network - Roads: a topologically structured link and node representation of the road network including information on road naming and numbering, junction names and numbers, classification, road function, primary routes and road node classification.
  • OS MasterMap® Highways Network - Roads and Routing and Asset Management: this component includes all the information in the 'Roads' product with the addition of information required for routing and asset management, including information on vehicle restrictions, covering access, manoeuvres, and physical characteristics.
  • OS MasterMap® Highways Network - Paths: provides a topologically structured link and node representation of the pedestrian path and ferry network within urban areas.

Ordnance Survey have provided a set of example FME Workbench Tools to load the data and ESRI have produced a Toolbox for loading the different layers in the Highways Network in to ArcGIS (note this toolbox requires the Data Interoperability Extension to be licensed).
