Downloading MasterMap in DWG format

OS MasterMap® Topography Layer can be downloaded in DWG format directly from Data Download. DWG is the native drawing format of AutoCAD software and can be read by most CAD software including Vectorworks and ArchiCAD.

Attributes are stored in DWG format as extended attribute data (Xdata) which can be viewed in AutoCAD using the List Xdata button on the Express Tools tab:

Note: it is not easy to interrogate attributes stored as Xdata; should you wish to do more detailed analysis of the attributes you may wish to import MasterMap GML instead. Importing the data from GML format also gives you more control over which feature classes are imported and how they are displayed.

 

  1. In Data Download select your area using one of the four Select Area tools, select Topography from teh OS MasterMap section and press the Add To Basket button to add the data to your basket:

  2. The Format column in the Basket window displays the currently selected data download format, in this case it is pre populated with GML2 which is the default format for OS MasterMap® Topography Layer:

  3. Pressing the down arrow next to the currently selected format displays a drop down listing available data formats:

  4. Select DWG as your format, give your download a name and press the Request Download button:

  5. A confirmation message will be displayed when your order has been received:

  6. You will receive and e-mail containing a hyperlink when your data is ready for download.
  7. Data is delivered in a zip file, once unzipped you can open the DWG file in a suitable CAD package. The default Ordnance Survey styling is applied:
