MIF/MID is an interchange format and cannot be displayed directly in MapInfo Professional. To view the data in MapInfo Professional the MIF/MID data must be translated in to MapInfo Table (tab) format first, this is done using the Import command in the Table menu inside MapInfo Professional. MapInfo Tables can be opened as a map in a new mapper window.
Converting MIF/MID data to TAB format
Open MapInfo Professional and from the Table menu select Import:
Browse to the location containing the MIF/MID files. Ensure 'MapInfo Interchange (*.mif)' is selected in the 'Files of type' dropdown and select one of the files that you wish to import:
Select an appropriate name and location for the table file that will be created by the import process (a default name will be suggested by MapInfo in the same location as the source MIF/MID data):
Press the Save button to start the import.
Repeat steps 2-4 for all other MIF/MID files you wish to import.
MapInfo Table (TAB) files are the native format for MapInfo Professional. MapInfo Tables can be opened as a map in a new mapper window. Please see the viewing MapInfo Tables topic for further information if you are unfamiliar with this process.
